We burn with passion for our trio and seek, with youthful curiosity, to uncover the hidden “amber stones” of musical literature - allowing them to shine and their stories to resonate in the world. Just as amber can spark and release its stored energy, we strive to unleash musical forces that create harmony, ignite emotion, and leave a lasting impression. As a golden emblem, amber symbolizes healing, creativity, and the joy of life.
Amber, known in Greek as elektron, holds more than the warm glow of ages long past—it carries the pulse of an ancient energy. Through friction, it awakens an electric charge, a wonder that captivated the minds of old and gifted electricity its very name. Across vast stretches of time, this fleeting resin transforms into a lasting treasure, shining with rich diversity, radiant brilliance, and gentle warmth.
Biography
The Bernstein Trio was founded in 2022 and consists of Roman Tulchynsky (violin), Marei Schibilsky (cello), and Julia Stephan (piano). The musicians met at the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Gymnasium in Berlin and are currently studying at the Universität der Künste Berlin and the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. As an ensemble, they receive coaching from Prof. Jonathan Aner.
At the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Hochschulwettbewerb 2025, the Bernstein Trio won 1st prize, the special prize for the commissioned composition, and the special prize from the Freunde junger Musiker. Additionally, the ensemble won the 1st prize and the special prize of the Schumann-Gesellschaft at the international Schumann-Kammermusikpreis 2025 in Frankfurt. In February 2025, the Bernstein Trio received the 3rd prize at the international chamber music competition „Schubert und die Musik der Moderne“.
